FONDS ZOZ – HET CULTUURFONDS – 2024

I received the news that, through the Fonds ZOZ and the Cultuurfonds, I can complete the project I Left My Coat Behind; they are financing the production process. I’m grateful and looking forward to the project.

GRAFISCH ATELIER – 2024

Experimental week at Grafisch Atelier Den Bosch. Along with four other visual artists, I was selected to experiment and explore techniques in their studio for a full week. I chose techniques that I might want to apply to future projects. For five days, I received support from various mentors and had the opportunity to observe different processes.

I focused on screen printing various photos on different surfaces and grids. I also worked with the Risograph printer. Additionally, I operated the large press and I experienced what it’s like to print photography on ceramics. Earlier this year, I also took a Toyobo course at GA and learned to print photography on glass.

Thanks to: Grafisch Atelier, for making this experimental week possible and for thinking along with me about techniques to further develop my photography.

CULTUREEL FORUM SCHIEDAM, STIPENDIUM SCHIEDAMSWATER, STEDELIJK MUSEUM SCHIEDAM – 2024

Three photographers have been invited to visually explore Schiedam. This year, Mounir Raji, Sem Langendijk, and I were asked by Cultureel Forum Schiedam / Stipendium Schiedamswater to capture the (social) changes in the city through photography and to tell hidden stories.

Anne de Haij, director of the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam and jury member, says: “Each of the photographers, in their own unique way, pays tribute to remarkable, sometimes less visible residents of Schiedam. It offers a surprising perspective on our city and its inhabitants.”

• Thanks to: Annemarie Sour, Maarten Mulder, Cultureel Forum Schiedam, Stipendium Schiedams Water, Anne de Haij, Rebecca Simons, Reyn van der Lugt and Stedelijk Museum Schiedam.

MUSEUM MODEM, HUNGARY – 2024

MODEM Center of Modern and Contemporary Art

Curator Tamás Don contacted me for a collaboration and exhibition at MODEM. The wonderful collaboration was a succes:  the solo exhibition, the opening, creating new work inspired by the Hungarian perspective, and for organizing the interview/talk. And of course, not to forget the enjoyable (networking) dinners and the sightseeing around the city; thank you it was great!

“An important mission of MODEM Project Space is to present young international artists to the audience of Debrecen. The first step in this endeavour is the solo exhibition Family Stranger by Dutch-Polish photographer Wiosna van Bon. This photo series deals with families in which one of the members has been incarcerated. Lyrically, the artist abstracts the psychological processes that family members and prisoners go through during their time in prison. The pictures were taken in prison and in or in the immediate surroundings of family members homes. These are complemented by various objects, mostly toys, which, in most cases, refer to the parent-child relationship and the carefree world outside, as a counterpoint to the harshness of prison. As a consequence of this theme, motifs of silence, confinement and surveillance dominate the images, but the emergence of plants also suggests hope for a new beginning. The images are accompanied by video interviews with a psychologist from Debrecen and a social worker employed in the Hungarian penitentiary system, so that viewers can get a more nuanced view of what the prisoners and their relatives are going through. The interviews with the experts show that the family members are initially at a loss to understand, due to the shock, how they got into this situation.”

FOTODOK, LES RENCONTRES D’ARLES – 2024

Fotodok Talent Embassy

What an amazing week and a dream to be part of the Fotodok Talent Embassy team this year. From deep conversations to tears of laughter; we had an incredible amount of fun while working hard towards our ambitions. During the opening week of Les Rencontres de la photographie, Arles, FOTODOK brought along several emerging photographers to introduce them to the international photography network: Sebastian Koudijzer, Oxiea Villamonte, Meshkat Talebi and Farren van Wyk. Thank you for being part of this and for starting this photo family.

In the past months, we received advice from various coaches. We discussed our projects and portfolios, followed pitch lessons, and were introduced to people from the photography world. I’m incredibly grateful and proud of Fotodok for organizing this. Compliments to Femke Rotteveel, Yusser Al Obaidi, Lisanne van Happen, Marga Rotteveel, Marta Camagna and Eleonora Schianchi.

STOP DE STILTE, STICHTING SPRINGPLANK – 2024

To create awareness and understanding of homelessness, a silent performance was created along with a poster and photography campaign by Stop de Stilte, Stichting Springplank, and Yellow Sunshine.

We are often ‘silent’ about things we find difficult or are ashamed of. A performance was set up in the center of Eindhoven where stories were told by people who are or have been homeless. The stories they were silent about. Positive stories were also told, about what helped or where they are now. Always with the message that all the stories we tell could be about you and me. Additionally, we made about 45 portraits to show how much we resemble each other. That someone can end up at Stichting Springplank through a few wrong choices, one impactful event, or illness. There is currently a traveling chair that gives these stories a voice. If you are curious about where this chair can be seen right now, keep an eye on the Stop de Stilte page.

Thanks to: Stop de Stilte, Stichting Springplank, Yellow Sunshine, Thijs Eradus, Jessie Faber, Janna Sibbes, Katrien van de Camp, Suzanne van Gool, Frans Brok, and Bram Wakelkamp

ZELFIE, WEENER XL – 2024

In collaboration with the Municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Weener XL and Refugee Team, we are organizing an exhibition about ambition. Together with a fantastic team, we have been working over the past months to connect people in various ways. Tonight, we will do that by engaging in conversation through photography and film. Three exhibitions and artist talks are scheduled. The opening will take place on April 25 at 7 PM in H73 in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Two weeks later, the exhibition will move to the MBO school at Koning Willem I College, where we will engage with students during several lectures. Finally, the exhibition will be presented at the DIY festival on June 8 at Tramkade.

Weener XL commissioned me to create a photo series about the women who are part of the Zelfie project. These women have weekly meetings in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, where they create space to discuss diverse topics and learn about themselves and each other. The goal of the project is to empower women and help them integrate into Dutch society and find suitable work. As I took part in the meetings and photographed and interviewed fifteen women, I realised that many topics and conversations centred around the theme of ambition. I noticed that some of the questions in the program were asked from a privileged perspective. In a welfare state, like the Netherlands, kids are encouraged to dream and create their future from a young age. But what happens if those dreams are dismissed because you are forced to leave your country? I started to explore what passion and ambition mean to these women to have a better understanding of their perspective and explore whether we asked the right questions in the first place. I quickly realised that while I associate the word ambition with a career, there are many other ways to have an ambition.

FAÇADE REMBRANDT THEATER, GROUP EXHIBITION – 2023

Curator Jonas de Witte has asked photographer David Jagersma and me for the exhibition: Façade Rembrandt Theater, 22 to 7 July 2023.

In the context of 100 years of Titus Brandsmalyceum, January is the month of creation. During this month, all students will work visually during class to fill an ‘Pakje Kunst’. I have been asked as a guest teacher to guide the students.

KENNISVOUCHER, PROVINCE OF NORTH BRABANT AND KUNSTLOC BRABANT – 2020

To continue my development I applied to Kunstloc Brabant to get support from a business coach. Together with Bas Veldhuizen and Sam Branten we discussed my needs and selected the coach who suits best. Since mid-2020 I’ve been working with Marion Beltman on improving my business plan, both artistically and financially.

GROUP EXHIBITION THE POWER OF THE SINGLE IMAGE, MELKWEG AMSTERDAM – 2017

Group exhibition at Melkweg in Amsterdam.
